Surah Yaseen vs Surah Mulk – Key Differences and Similarities

The Virtue of Surah Mulk
Surah Mulk’s virtue is specifically mentioned in a hadith in Sunan at-Tirmidhi and Sunan Abu Dawud: the Prophet ﷺ said that Surah Mulk “intercedes for its companion until he is forgiven” and protects from the punishment of the grave. This hadith is graded as Hasan (good) by many scholars including at-Tirmidhi himself, making it more reliably authenticated than some hadiths about Surah Yaseen. The Prophet ﷺ is reported to have recited Surah Mulk every night before sleeping.
Should I Read Surah Yaseen or Surah Mulk?
Both — they serve different spiritual purposes and are not alternatives to each other. The recommended routine according to scholars: recite Surah Mulk every night before sleeping (established Sunnah). Recite Surah Yaseen on Friday nights and as a regular wazifa (recommended practice). Include both in your regular Quran recitation schedule. The two surahs together give a Muslim the protection of the grave (Surah Mulk) and the heart of the Quran (Surah Yaseen) as companions in their spiritual life.
